Katy Hayward Christmas Decoration – Come Fly With Me Pīwaiwaka
A pair of fantails for the tree, minus the swooping at your head.
A limited edition Christmas decoration featuring 'Come Fly With Me', Katy Hayward's artwork of a dancing pair of pīwaiwaka (fantails) carrying banners of mānuka.
The pīwaiwaka swoop and spread their wings and tail feathers, rejoicing in a bountiful supply of food. Pīwaiwaka are one of Aotearoa New Zealand's fierce hunters, and their long tail feathers help them twist and turn quickly in flight. Their favourites are moths, flies, spiders, wasps, beetles and the occasional fruit.
The drawing was inspired by Katy's love of bushwalks with her family, and the friendly little birds that dart and chase her daughter. A matching cup and trinket dish are available in the same design.
