Katy Hayward Bone China Cup – So This Is Love Tomtit
Two tomtits in love, and a bumblebee politely pretending not to notice.
A new bone china cup printed with 'So This Is Love', Katy Hayward's original artwork of a male and female miromiro (tomtit) among flowering puawānanga.
'So This Is Love' features a male and female miromiro (tomtit) pair glancing at one another as they perch among flowering puawānanga (Clematis paniculata), joined by a pīrorohu (bumblebee). Miromiro are songbirds native to Aotearoa, known for their striking plumage and high-pitched calls. They often live in monogamous pairs: while the female keeps the eggs warm, the male brings her food and watches for danger, then helps feed the chicks.
The drawing was inspired by bushwalks with Katy's family. Puawānanga is one of her favourite native flowers.
