Katy Hayward Bone China Cup – Come Fly With Me Fantail
Two fantails mid-swoop, about as close as a real one will let you get.
A new bone china cup printed with 'Come Fly With Me', Katy Hayward's original artwork of a pair of pīwaiwaka (fantails) carrying banners of mānuka.
'Come Fly With Me' features a dancing pair of pīwaiwaka (fantails) carrying banners of mānuka, wings and tail feathers spread. Fantails are fierce hunters: their long tail feathers help them twist and turn quickly in flight, and they feed on moths, flies, spiders, wasps, beetles and the occasional fruit.
The drawing was inspired by bushwalks with Katy's family and the fantails that follow along, darting around her daughter. A matching trinket dish is available in the same design.
